“I love you, that’s why I beat you”. Domestic Violence in Africa


Sub-Saharan African countries experience exorbitant negative trend concerning domestic abuse, reaching peaks of almost 66 per cent. An issue that affects millions of women worldwide — extremely hard to be eradicated in the African regions due to cultural traditions and beliefs and to a widespread distorted vision of the women’s role. During its journey, AfroWomenPoetry has met several artists whose verses represent a cross section of this issue, including marital rape and wife-beating – throughout the experience of direct victims of abuse.
